Sri Lanka has fallen to the 79th place among other countries in alcohol consumption, the Excise Department said.
Excise Commissioner and Media Spokesman Kapila Kumarasinghe said that this was due to the high price of alcohol and the rapid decline in alcohol consumption due to economic pressure.
He pointed out that the sales of alcohol have also decreased by 40%.
