SL to establish 10 new botanical gardens

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena says that the government has planned to establish ten botanical gardens based on the climate zones in the country.

Delivering a statement in Parliament today (June 05), the Prime Minister revealed plans to establish the projects in areas including Galle, Vavuniya, Ampara, Polonnaruwa and Deniyaya.

He stated that they have currently planned a Mangrove Botanic Garden at Akmeemana, Galle as well as botanic gardens in Vavuniya, Ampara, Polonnaruwa and Deniyaya.

He added that work is being done with experienced professionals in this field.

Four Sri Lankan players have been included in the ICC men’s ODI team of 2024.

Sri Lankan players Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga have been named in this manner.

Also, Charith Asalanka has been named as the captain while Kusal Mendis has been named as the wicket keeper of the team.

Two persons including former Western Provincial Councillor – Salochana Gamage, who were arrested while allegedly accepting a bribe, have been granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (24).

Each suspect was granted bail, subject to a cash bail of Rs. 25,000, two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each, and an overseas travel ban.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali also ordered that the guarantors must be close relatives of the two suspects.
