SLAF assists SL’s first heart transplant process

In keeping with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Sri Lanka Air Force and the Ministry of Health, an individual declared as brain dead after an accident has been airlifted by the Sri Lanka Air Force from the Badulla General Hospital to the Colombo National Hospital today (31) to retrieve vital organs.

A media release by the SLAF states that these vital organs are expected to be donated to required recipients and it is also to be used for the first ever heart transplant in Sri Lanka, which is to be done at the CNS.

The No. 04 squadron at the SLAF Base Ratmalana had successfully accomplished this feat under the guidance of the Air Force Commander – Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana.
