Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela yesterday remanded Gamage Densil Padmasiri who is a former Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) councillor of Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte Municipal Council until August 02.

He was arrested by the Welikada Police for indecent exposure to a group of people including the principal of a famous girls school in Nawala, Rajagiriya at the Welikada Police premises.

Producing the suspect in the court, the Welikada Police said that the police received a complaint on 23/03/2023 about a WhatsApp group where reports defaming a school in Nawala have been shared.

Police informed the court that five or six persons, including the principal, parents, teachers and the suspect councillor were summoned to the police to investigate the complaint, and the councilor was released after being advised not to continue unlawful acts. The suspect had unzipped his trousers and exposed his genitals to the principal near the police cafeteria after being released.

The incident was videotaped by the teachers on their mobile phones, and the police said that they also received a complaint regarding the incident.

The suspect had been asked several times to report to the police to investigate the incident, but he had avoided the police and yesterday (27) the suspect was arrested after surrendering to the police.

The lawyer who appeared for the suspect said that the videos have been doctored.

Police informed the court that the mobile phones of the teachers have been forwarded to the Computer Division of the Criminal Investigation Department to obtain a report.

The former municipal councillor was arrested on charges of sexual harassment and obstructing the duties of government employees at a police station.
