The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has cancelled the public rally that was scheduled to be held in Anuradhapura today to kick off its local government election campaign.

MP S.M. Chandrasena said the party decided not to hold the public rally focusing on ongoing court proceedings. He said they decided to postpone the rally after discussing it with party leaders.

“Therefore, we decided to postpone the rally to March. The SLPP will hold the largest rally at the Salgadu Ground, larger than the rallies of the JVP, SJB and all the others. We will show our strength. Some say that the party has collapsed and can’t even hold a meeting. To answer all these concerns, a large rally will be held in Anuradhapura,” he said.

Fonseka cancels SJB rally

Meanwhile, Samagi Jana Balawega’s (SJB) Kelaniya Organizer Sarath Fonseka has also cancelled a public rally that was scheduled to be held today (24), SJB sources said.

However, a senior SJB member said that Mr. Fonseka had been avoiding holding the rally for a long time, and it has been completely cancelled due to ongoing court proceedings.
