The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is against the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, SLPP General Secretary MP Sagara Kariyawasam said.

Speaking at a news briefing held at SLPP Office yesterday (18), he said making constitutional amendments targeting Mr. Basil Rajapaksa will prevent obtaining services of intellectuals who hold dual-citizenship.

MP Kariyawasam said the SLPP will support the adoption of a Constitution that is essential for the betterment of the country to solve the issues within 6 months, instead of focusing on individuals.

He said that they have informed President Ranil Wickremesinghe that the party will oppose if a Constitution is brought targeting one person, religious group or based on other narrow gains.

MP Kariyawasam said the SLPP discussed the proposed Constitutional amendment with President Wickremesinghe recently and informed him about their decision.
