Arrested ex-PS member, granted bail (Update)

Former SLPP member of the Millaniya Pradeshiya Sabha – Raveendra Rammuni, has been granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

He was arrested by the CID this morning (Jan. 03) for allegedly sharing defamatory statements on social media about National People’s Power (NPP) MP – Nilanthi Kottahachchi.

The Magistrate ordered to release him on a surety of Rs. 500,000.

SLPP’s ex-PS member arrested over defaming MP Kottahachchi

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested former SLPP member of the Millaniya Pradeshiya Sabha, Raveendra Nammuni.

He was arrested today morning (Jan. 03) at his residence in Batagoda for allegedly sharing defamatory statements on social media about National People’s Power (NPP) Member of Parliament Nilanthi Kottahachchi.

BASL express concerns over controversial prisoner pardon

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has expressed serious concern over the recent questionable release of an inmate from the Anuradhapura Prison under a Presidential Pardon.

In a letter addressed to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the BASL has urged the President to initiate a full, impartial investigation into the incident and to strengthen transparency and accountability within the Department of Prisons.

Report on Gerandi Ella bus accident, handed over

The report of the special committee to investigate the recent tragic bus accident in Gerandi Ella, was handed over to the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs yesterday (June 11).

According to the Police Media Division, the report was handed over by Senior DIG Ajith Rohana.

The accident on May 11 claimed the lives of 23 persons while injuring 60 others.

Accepting railway parcels for Kandy – Matale line, suspended

Acceptance of parcels for transport by trains on the Kandy and Matale line has been temporarily suspended.

Sri Lanka Railways had also temporarily halted train services between Kandy and Peradeniya on the Up-country Railway Line yesterday morning (June 11) after a ground subsidence was discovered below a section of the railway track between Kandy and Peradeniya.

In this backdrop, Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses have been deployed to transport passengers between Peradeniya and Kandy stations.
