The Sri Lanka Transport Bus (SLTB) workers attached to several depots in the North Central Province have launched a strike this morning (31) over an assault.

The SLTB employees belonging to Dambulla, Anuradhapura, Kekirawa, Horowpathana, Polonnaruwa, Kebithigollewa and Kantale Depots are on a strike.

A depot inspector of the Horowpathana SLTB depot who is also a union leader had been assaulted after taking him away in a private bus.

It was reported that all the buses at the Dambulla Depot have been parked and protest banners have been displayed on the gates in support of the strike.

Many passengers including government employees faced difficulties due to the lack of public buses in Mahiyanganaya. They pointed out that it is unfair to inconvenience the passengers in this manner based on an assault incident.
