State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) Chairman Dr. Manuj Weerasinghe stated that the news published in the media that a tender to supply a mouthwash has been awarded to a blacklisted company by the SPC is false.
The State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) has refuted news reports claiming that the SPC has awarded a tender to supply a mouthwash to a blacklisted company, is false.
SPC Chairman – Manuj Weerasinghe has said that the order was placed by the Pharmaceuticals Supplies Division and that the tender was awarded to the lowest bidder with registration certificate from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).
Also, the bidder participating in this tender is a NMRA registered supplier and has been adjudged a defaulted supplier by the Board of Directors on October 29, 2024 due to default of payment to the SPC. The procurement committee had decided to award the tender to the said supplier but during the follow-up process, the Board of Directors identified the supplier as a defaulting supplier and the relevant tender was cancelled by the Tender Board itself.
Following the suspension of the decision to award the tender, he said that the necessary steps to select a suitable bidder from the remaining candidates had already been finalised and the process was completed before media reports about the tender emerged.
