Special directives to coordinate relief efforts

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has issued directives to District Secretaries to coordinate relief efforts with the assistance of the Disaster Management Center (DMC) to those affected by the inclement weather.

The President’s Media Division states that the required funds have been allocated through the Finance Ministry.

At least three persons have died so far while more than 55,000 people have been affected so far and

due to the prevailing inclement weather conditions which had resulted in floods in several areas, and according to the Department of Meteorology, the current heavy rains are expected to continue.

A total of 278 inmates at prisons across the island will be released tomorrow in view of Vesak festival, the Prisons Department said.

There were less than 20 member present during the time of suspension.

Notice for students sitting for Grade 5 scholarships

The Department of Examinations has announced that the 2024 Grade Five Scholarship Examination will be held on September 15 this year.

It adds that applications for the examination will be accepted online from May 27 – June 14, 2024 and acceptance of applications will not be extended beyond the announced period.
