A special committee comprising four senior police officers, headed by Senior Deputy Inspector General Ajith Rohana, has been appointed by the Acting Inspector General of Police to investigate the fatal bus accident at Gerandi Ella in Kotmale, which claimed 22 lives.
The bus, operated by the Sri Lanka Transport Board and travelling from Kataragama to Kurunegala, met with the accident in the early hours of Sunday.
The Acting IGP has instructed the committee to examine key factors that led to the accident and to submit recommendations on preventive measures the Sri Lanka Police can implement to avoid similar incidents in the future.
