Specialist doctors go to court against retirement age

The Court of Appeal has considered a petition filed requesting to issue a writ invalidating the decision taken by the Cabinet to reduce the retirement age to 60 years.

The petitioners said that a decision has been taken by the Cabinet of Ministers on October 17 to reduce their compulsory retirement age to 60 years.

The Appellate Court bench comprising of Justices Sobitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola, who considered the petition, has issued summons to the respondents to appear in court on December 13.

The petition was filed by 176 specialist doctors.
