Sri Lanka Law College launches new website

The Sri Lanka Law College has launched its new website https://www.sllc.ac.lk/home developed with the support of the European Union-funded ‘Support to Justice Reform (JURE)’ project, to enhance legal education.
This project is jointly implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UNICEF in Sri Lanka and facilitated by the Ministry of Justice.

This initiative is part of the broader digitalisation action plan led by the Ministry of Justice within its reform mechanisms. In addition to supporting the website, the EU-funded JURE project will continue to support Law College in realising catalytic reforms in the justice education sector in Sri Lanka.

The new website was launched on Monday at the Law College Auditorium, with the participation of Chief Justice, Jayantha Jayasuriya, PC; Secretary, Ministry of Justice Nihal Ranasinghe, Principal of Sri Lanka Law College, Dr Athula Pathinayake; Deputy Head of Cooperation, Delegation of the European Union to Sri Lanka, Edoardo Spacca; and Officer-In-Charge, UNDP in Sri Lanka, Malin Herwig.

Issuing a statement, UNDP Sri Lanka said the newly launched website marks the beginning of many user-friendly digital learning tools to be introduced for students, faculty, and legal professionals. The website provides access to academic resources, and up-to-date administrative matters, and engages students in interactive learning to enhance the efficiency and accessibility to legal education. The future phases of the website under the JURE project will include the integration of a Student Management System as well as a Learning Management System (LMS).

“Reports of Wijepala – Nissanka meeting, fake”

The Public Security Ministry has denied media reports claiming that the Public Security minister – Ananda Wijepala had met Nissanka Senadhipathi.

The Minister’s media secretary had clarified this in a letter to Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya. 
Adding that the neither the Minister or a representative had ever met Senadhipathi as claimed, the letter calls for proper investigations into the fake news and legal action against those responsible.

Special allowance for policemen on duty at ‘Siri Dalada Vandanawa’

A special transport allowance and a combined allowance will be provided to police personnel assigned to ensure the safety of devotees attending the exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Siri Dalada Vandanawa) in Kandy, the police said.

The measure has been taken over the instructions of the Acting IGP, in consideration of the fact that these police personnel will be on continuous day and night duty for over 10 days, away from their regular stations and incurring additional personal expenses.

Ravi K’s Bill to repeal Online Safety Act, gazetted

The Bill to repeal the Online Safety Act, No. 9 of 2024, and other regulations concerning the Act, has been gazetted.

The Online Safety Bill was passed by a majority vote in Parliament on Jan. 24, 2024.

The Bill that has been gazetted was submitted by opposition MP Ravi Karunanayake.

On Feb. 28, 2025, MP Karunanayake submitted a private member’s Bill to the Parliament Secretary-General, aiming to repeal the controversial Online Safety Act.
