Sri Lanka and Thailand are set to sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on February 3, aiming to elevate bilateral trade to over US$ 1.5 billion.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin will visit Sri Lanka for the signing ceremony and will also be a special guest at the 76th National Independence Day celebrations on February 4 at Galle Face, presided over by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The agreement not only seeks to enhance trade but also aims to attract Thai investors to Sri Lanka. As part of the initiative, a delegation of 50 leading investors from Thailand will accompany Prime Minister Thavisin to explore investment opportunities in the country. The FTA includes provisions for tax relief on certain goods traded between the two nations.
The anticipated FTA is poised to facilitate increased exports from Sri Lanka to Thailand, particularly in the sectors of gems and jewelry, tea, and agricultural products. The agreement signifies a step toward strengthening economic collaboration between the two countries and fostering mutual growth and development.
