A 41-year-old Sri Lankan residing illegally in Italy has been arrested for attempted murder by Italy’s Carabinieri Police after allegedly stabbing a fellow countryman multiple times, causing severe injuries, according to Italian media reports.

‘Il Mattino’ reports that Carabinieri officers intervened on Via Francesco Saverio Correra after receiving a report of an injured person.

The victim, a 44-year-old Sri Lankan, sustained multiple stab wounds, including severe injuries to the base of his neck, chest, and right thigh.

He was transported to Pellegrini Hospital, where he remains under observation.

The Carabinieri of the operational unit conducted investigations, leading to the arrest of the 41-year-old suspect, a homeless Sri Lankan known to authorities.

He was found to be illegally residing in the country and now faces charges of attempted murder.

The suspect has been transferred to prison under the jurisdiction of the Neapolitan judicial authority.

The investigation, carried out by the Carabinieri in collaboration with the prosecutor’s office, involved analyzing surveillance footage and gathering on-site testimonies.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a heated argument, possibly over a disputed woman, which escalated into the assault.
