For the first time in history, two Sri Lankan journalists have won the prestigious Laadli South Asia Media Awards for Gender Sensitivity.
Vineetha M. Gamage, Assistant News Editor at the Mawbima newspaper and senior journalist Former Head of Channel Eye Sunanda Hettiarachchi won the awards in Mumbai, India on Dec. 12.
Laadli, the media advocacy campaign of Population First, has been giving Laadli Media and Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity (LMAAGS) and for gender sensitive journalism since 2007.
The Laadli Media and Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity are unique in the world. They celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of individuals and organisations in the media and advertising industry who, through their work, highlight gender concerns. The awards are supported by UNFPA.
