Sri Lankan Ambassador to Türkiye Hasanthi Urugodawatte Dissanayake said that one Sri Lankan who was in the affected areas of yesterday’s (06) earthquake in Türkiye is still reported missing.
The Ambassador said the other 13 Sri Lankans in the affected areas are safe.
Foreign news services reported that the death toll from two earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale in southern Türkiye and a magnitude of 7.5 in southeastern Türkiye had exceeded 2,700 as of last night.
Thousands of people were injured.
According to the US Geological Survey, the number of people who died could exceed 10,000 depending on the strength of the earthquakes.
