State Minister Chanaka’s father-in-law killed by Sujee

State Minister D. V. Chanaka’s father-in-law millionaire businessman Lalith Wasantha Mendis was shot in the head Saturday night (23) in his car in Galle by the accomplices of Kosgoda Sujee, one of the country’s leading underworld leaders who is hiding in Dubai, it has been revealed.

Investigations revealed that the murdered businessman had relations with an underworld leader named Rathgama Vidura.

Police suspect that the murder may have been carried out as a result of a deep hatred between Rathgama Vidura and Kosgoda Sujee.

Lalith Wasantha Mendis, the owner of the largest textile shop in Galle, was killed while he was returning home after closing the shop.

While he was driving his car, two assailants who chased him on a motorcycle fired several shots at the rear windows of the car in the Binge Kanda area, Galle.

When the businessman tried to park his car beside the road, the two assailants fired about 15 shots at his head and the chest area.

The businessman was admitted to the hospital by the residents but he was pronounced dead on admission, hospital sources said.

The underworld leader named Rathgama Vidura is currently hiding in Italy.

In the last few days, Kosgoda Sujee’s relatives and several members of his underworld gang were attacked by members of the Vidura’s gang in several areas including in Ambalangoda and Galle.

Police suspect that this businessman may have been killed as a result of these attacks.

Police are conducting investigations to identify the killers from the CCTV footage obtained from the area where the attack took place.

Meanwhile, it was also reported that the Criminal Investigation Department has obtained statements from the deceased victim regarding drug charges.
