Permission to grow cannabis to cater to the Ayurvedic sector will be granted through the relevant draft Bill which is to be tabled in Parliament. Speaking at a news conference, the state minister explained the matters related to the new Bill yesterday (06).
State Minister Jayakody said that cannabis cannot be grown without legal provisions and added that irresponsible comments related to growing cannabis should not be made.
“If you plant cannabis without legal provisions, you will end up in jail. Such statements cannot be made without any responsibility. The timeline will be determined based on the day the Bill is passed. Permission will be given to grow cannabis for the Ayurvedic sector. Accordingly, the Ayurvedic Commissioner should enact regulations,” he said.
