Station Masters’ strike suspended (Update)

The Railway Station Masters’ Union has decided to temporarily halt their strike action due to the Diwali festival today (Oct. 31).

The strike began yesterday evening afternoon and continued until 10.00pm with station masters refraining from issuing tickets.
However, the union’s president – Sumedha Somaratne has stated that they would resume their TU action if a satisfactory resolution to their issues is not provided by the end of today.

Meanwhile, Minister of transport highways, ports and Civil Aviation – Vijitha Herath has called the Station Masters union for fresh discussions today.


Station masters withdraw from ticketing duties

Railway Station Masters have refrained from all ticketing duties from 4.30 pm today (Oct. 30), the Railway Station Masters’ Union announced.

The Executive Committee of the union had taken this TU action earlied today afternoon, after talks with authorities failed yesterday (Oct. 29).
