State Minister for Finance – Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that immediate steps will be taken to reduce the price of school bags and shoes.
The minister had said this while attending a discussion held today (11) at the Ministry of Finance.
The minister said that the price of bags and shoes in the local market should decrease following the depreciation of the dollar, and if the price has not decreased, he will inform the president immediately and take measures accordingly.
The Minister also ordered the Department of Trade and Investment Policies to look into the matter and provide a report within a week.
