Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment – Manusha Nanayakkara has questioned as to how certain businessmen were aware of a change in the special commodity levy imposed on sugar, even before it was tabled before the Cabinet of Ministers.
Speaking to journalists, he said that an inquiry must be held to reveal who knew about the tax increase and whether someone leaked this information.
The minister also said that by imposing the MRP for sugar, attempts by some to reap unfair profits were thwarted.
