Former MP and Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) spokesperson, **M.A. Sumanthiran**, urged the government to immediately disclose the names of former parliamentarians and politicians involved in securing and distributing liquor licenses during the previous administration.

At a press conference in Colombo, he emphasized the need for transparency amid growing public concern over the proliferation of liquor stores across the country.

Sumanthiran called for the release of the list of individuals responsible for recommending liquor licenses, particularly before the upcoming elections.

He expressed concerns about the social impact of increased liquor outlets, particularly on younger generations, and suggested that some individuals may have profited by selling liquor permits.

He also criticized the excessive perks given to parliamentarians, advocating for a reduction in these benefits, especially in light of the current economic crisis.

Sumanthiran reiterated his party’s commitment to reducing unnecessary privileges and promoting transparency in governance.

He further mentioned ITAK’s plans to introduce new, younger candidates, with a focus on encouraging more women to run for office in the upcoming general elections.
