Suspects of brutal child assault case, remanded (Update)

Five persons including the 45-year-old main suspect and two women arrested over the brutal assault of a toddler, have been ordered to be remanded. 

The Padaviya Magistrate’s Court has ordered the suspects to be remanded in custody until June 19.

Meanwhile, the assaulted child has been placed under probationary care.

Suspects who brutally assaulted toddler, arrested

Police have arrested a man who had brutally assaulted a toddler after a video of the incident had sparked widespread public outrage.
In addition, two females aged 37 and 46 years of age have also been arrested.

They are residents of Kalyanpura, Welioya.

The video shows the man repeatedly attacking and beating a small child while feeding him.

The suspect, identified as a resident of Welioya, Padaviya, had fled his residence with the child by the time police arrived. However, police officers of the Mullaitivu crime division and officers of the Pulmudai STF camp had continued their search, and arrested the suspects.

Further investigations are underway.
