Swiss ambassador’s jewellery worth Rs.4.5mn. stolen

Kollupitiya Police has initiated searches for two female suspects who had allegedly stolen jewelry worth Rs. 4.5 million from the residence of the Swiss ambassador in Sri Lanka.

The theft had been committed from April 12 – 27 when the ambassador had left for Switzerland. During her absence, five members of her staff had been on duty at the residence.

The complaint was lodged on April 29 after the ambassador’s return.

According to the complaint, the missing jewelry also includes the ambassador’s wedding ring. All these items were reported to have been stored in a safe located in a room on an upper floor of the residence.

Two female suspects have been identified and investigations are underway to arrest them.
