Thieves break into Aththanagalla Raja Maha Vihara!



Ven. Alawala Samita Thera, the Chief Incumbent of Aththanagalla Raja Maha Vihara, has complained to the police that someone has broken into the relics room of the temple, and stolen the relics, two Buddha statues and some small caskets which are believed to be of ancient value.

The thieves had also stolen the money from the offering box.

Police said the suspect had entered the relics room by opening the window and removing the grille.

According to police sources, when Alawala Samitha Thera opened the door yesterday morning to clean the room after it was closed in April, he had seen that someone had stolen these ancient treasures.
