Former Attorney General Dappula de Livera has been informed to appear before the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) tomorrow to record a statement he had made over the 2019 Easter Sunday bomb attacks.

Police said he was informed to appear before the TID to record a statement regarding his controversial statement of a coup behind the Easter Sunday attacks.

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe also said at a Cabinet briefing that he has informed the Attorney General to record a statement from Dappula de Livera over his statement on the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

In May 2021, a few days before the end of his tenure as the AG, Dappula de Livera said that he is unable to present indictments against the conspirators and abettors of the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks within his tenure as the Criminal Investigation Department’s probes are incomplete.

Speaking to the media, the Justice Minister said that Dappula de Livera as the Attorney General at the time should have summoned the Police and ordered them to conduct further investigations if the level of inquiry had been insufficient.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe met with Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) senior leader MP Mavai Senathirajah at his residence in Kankasanthurai, Jaffna, during his visit as part of the “Puluwan Sri Lanka” presidential campaign.

Senathirajah expressed confidence in Wickremesinghe’s chances in the upcoming election, noting his potential to ensure development in the Northern region.

This meeting adds complexity to ITAK’s stance, as the party, under MP M.A. Sumanthiran’s leadership, had earlier declared support for Sajith Premadasa, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya candidate.

Meanwhile, ITAK had also announced their decision not to support Tamil common candidate P. Ariyanenthiran.

Senathirajah, however, had previously stated that he was unaware of these decisions.
