Director Of Compliance at the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) – Ms. Tharalika Livera says that mobile service providers have been briefed not to issue SIM cards to National Identity Cards of deceased persons.
She has revealed that each month, TRCSL receives a list of deceased persons, their NIC numbers and phone numbers they had used from every divisional secretariat in the island.
In addition, mobile service providers have also been directed to disconnect the relevant mobile phone number after the death of a person.
