Five people died and 17 others injured when a tree fell on a bus travelling from Colombo to Deniyaya near the Liberty Junction in Kollupitiya at around 6 am today (06).
The police and the air force personnel have launched an operation to rescue two people trapped inside the bus. The road is currently blocked due to the accident, police said.
Meanwhile, the Nittambuwa Police said that around 20 people were injured and admitted to the Wathupitiwala Hospital following a road accident.
A private bus, a bowser and a container vehicle collided at around 5 am today at Bataliya, Kadjugama on the Colombo-Kandy Road.
The container vehicle coming from the opposite direction had collided with the side of the bus travelling from Ampara to Colombo. At the same time, a bowser that came from behind the bus had also hit it from behind.
