The All-Island Three-Wheeler Drivers’ Union (AITWDU) today (Dec. 29) said that three-wheeler fares will be increased in January if petrol prices increase after the implementation of Value-Added Tax (VAT) by 18%.
AITWDU president Lalith Dharmasekera has told the media that if this becomes the case, charges for the first kilometer would be increased.
Mr. Dharmasekera has also pointed out that although the AITWDU had not increased fares after the recent fuel price revisions, they would have to do so if the fuel price increases this time.
However he added that there are also concerns on how passengers can afford the increased fares, he added.
