Tune of IMF has changed: Kiriella

Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella said in Parliament that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has also changed its “tune” as it had earlier said in September that a mandate is needed if economic reforms are to be carried out.

MP Kiriella asked whether the conditions have now been forwarded after obtaining a mandate.

He said the government should have gone to the IMF by having negotiations with the Opposition initially. He said it is now difficult to support the government when the people are under severe pressure.
