Two 15-yr. olds fall from Altair building

It is reported that two 15-year-old students have lost their lives after falling from the 67th floor of the Altair building in the Slave Island area of Colombo.

According to Slave Island police, the deceased, a male and female student, were studying at an international school in Kurunduwatta, Colombo. The male student was from Wellawatta, and the female student was from Kelaniya.

Meanwhile, media reports have suggested that the two students may have committed suicide by jumping from the building.

CIABOC arrests CCD inspector and constable for accepting bribe

 An Inspector and a Constable of the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) were arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) while accepting a bribe of Rs. 150,000. 

 According to CIABOC, the two suspects had solicited a total bribe of Rs. 450,000.

Dates announced for O/L practical exams of aesthetic subjects

The Department of Examinations has announced the dates for the practical tests of aesthetic subjects for the 2023 (2024) G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination.

According to Exams Commissioner General Amith Jayasundara, the practical exams for Music, Dancing, and Drama and Theatre will be held from July 9 to July 19, 2024. Additionally, the listening test for Western Music is scheduled for Sunday, July 14.

The department also mentioned that admission cards for school and private applicants sitting for the practical tests will be delivered by post in the near future.

Dhammika Perera gears up to run for President

Tycoon and Member of Parliament Dhammika Perera announced his readiness to contest the upcoming Presidential Election, contingent on the decision of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

“I am prepared to contest the Presidential Election, pending the decision of the SLPP on their candidate. I await their decision while continuing to work towards my victory,” said MP Perera.

Perera made this statement during the inauguration of the SLPP’s Centre for Professionals, held this morning.

Emphasizing his commitment to economic development, Perera stated, “My primary focus is on developing the economy. If I am to take the stage, I have to explain how I plan to develop the economy. Therefore, I am currently formulating an economic programme.”
