Two arrested over stealing T56 from Panagoda Camp’s guard room

Two suspects have been arrested for stealing a T-56 firearm, three magazines and 90 bullets from a soldier who was deployed for duty at a guard room at the Panagoda Army Camp on March 03.

Accordingly, a former soldier who allegedly stole the firearm and the bullets and a Sergeant who provided shelter to the soldier have been arrested.

The soldier is a resident of Middeniya and the sergeant is a resident of Veyangoda.

The arrests were made last morning (15) near the Magammana Cemetery at Homagama. The Homicide and Organized Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) earlier launched an investigation into the incident following a complaint made to the Homagama Police.

The stolen firearm and magazines containing 90 bullets were found following the interrogation of the suspects. 

The suspects will be produced in Homagama Magistrate’s Court today (16).

Keheliya & family remanded after failing to meet bail conditions (Update)

Former Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella, his wife Kusum Priyadarshini Epa, and their daughter Chandula Ramali Rambukwella who were granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, have been remanded due to their failure to fulfil the bail conditions.

The trio was produced before the court today (June 18), following their arrest by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

CIABOC arrests Keheliya, wife & daughter

Former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, his wife and daughter have been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

They have been arrested over an investigation into their assets, according to the Bribery Commission.

Earlier this morning, former Minister Rambukwella appeared before CIABOC to record a statement.

The most talked-about candidate in the 2025 Local Government Election, Balthazaar was elected the 26th Mayor of the CMC while receiving 61 votes following a secret ballot on Monday (June 16).

She becomes the second female Mayor of CMC, following Rosy Senanayaka.
