Two arrested with smuggled in gold jewellery at BIA

Two suspects who smuggled in a stock of jewellery weighing one kilogram and 780 grams worth Rs. 280 million into Sri Lanka were arrested by the Police Narcotics Division in Katunayake.

The arrested aged 39 and 52 are residents of Wellampitiya and Grandpass.

They had arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake from Chennai, India.

Meanwhile, a 38-year-old woman who attempted to smuggle out 814 grams of gold has been arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau at Katunayake.

The arrested suspect had tried to smuggle gold out of the country by converting it into liquid.
