A 26-year-old resident of Murugapurai, Jamalia has died by suicide while being detained in the Trincomalee Police.
The victim had been arrested in connection with a theft.
The Trincomalee Police is conducting further investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, a prisoner who was detained in the open prison in Pallekele has also died by suicide.
The victim was a 34-year-old resident of Samanpura in Mattakkuliya.
The reason for the suicide has not yet been revealed and further investigations are being carried out by the Pallekele Police.
