The Urban Development Authority has sealed the house of the recently deceased senior journalist and activist – Ms Seetha Ranjani, just two days after her final rites were held.

The house in Madiwela, owned by the UDA, has been sealed today (Feb. 20).

According to reports, the UDA had reportedly taken this decision over non-payment of rent.

According to a Facebook post by senior journalist Dharman Wickramaratne, when relevant parties had requested the UDA to hand over some books belonging to the late journalist, they were reportedly told to bring her death certificate and affidavits first.

The house was originally handed over to Dr. Manorani Saravanamuthu, mother of the late renowned journalist Richard de Zoysa. The late Minister Mangala Samaraweera had handed it over to her on behalf of the government back then.

Seetha Ranjani, a pioneer figure in the free media movement, a renowned activist and author, passed away on Feb. 16th. Final rites were held on Feb. 18.
