An underworld figure from Angoda who was attempting to leave the country using a forged passport has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.
The suspect was detected through the recently-installed automatic facial recognition system at the BIA premises, Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa said.
The arrested individual is a 47 old man from Angoda, Mulleriyawa.
It is revealed that he was a close aide of organized criminal – ‘Angoda Lokka’ and also wanted by the Mulleriyawa police for smuggling ICE.
Further investigations are underway.
