Minister of Power and Energy – Kanchana Wijesekera has said that Unit 3 at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant will be shut down for a period of 100 days from June 13 this year.
Noting that this is for some ‘scheduled major overhaul maintenance work’, the Minister added that “power generation will be managed without any power cuts with other Thermal Power Plants. “
The minister has also said that that “with the 30th Cargo of Coal currently unloading at Norochcholai, the full coal requirement of CEB for this season will be completed.”
“There will be No Black Outs or Power Cuts as speculated earlier by CEB unions & media reports due to Coal shortages,” he further noted.
