UNP & SLPP to contest polls under common symbol!

The United National Party (UNP) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) have paid attention to contest the Local Government elections under a common symbol, UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara said.

He said the two parties will contest jointly for some local government institutions under a common symbol while they will contest under the elephant symbol and the lotus bud symbol separately for other LG institutions.

Mr. Range Bandara said the leaders of the two parties will decide on further details at a discussion which will be held on January 10.

The top officials of the two parties held a discussion in Colombo yesterday (8) to decide on how to contest the local government elections where they have discussed contesting under a common symbol.

UNP Chairman Wajira Abeywardena, Deputy Chairman Ruwan Wijewardene, Vice Chairman Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Senior Vice Chairman Sagala Ratnayake, General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara and Ravi Karunanayake, SLPP Organiser Basil Rajapaksa, General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam, MPs Sanjeewa Edirimanna, Johnston Fernando and Mahindananda Aluthgamage attended the discussion.
