Negotiations are currently underway to contest the upcoming local government elections as an alliance with the United National Party (UNP) and a number of other parties, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP S.M. Chandrasena said.

The former minister said this in response to a question asked by journalists while he was engaged in political activities at Horiwila.

“It is said that Rs.10,000 million worth of funds are needed for the local government elections. The SLPP is ready to face an election at any time. Former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa is responsible for the fertilizer issue in the country, which caused many other problems. Apart from that, as a party, no injustice has been done to the country.”

“I strongly deny the allegation that SLPP MPs cannot visit the villages. Even now, several groups including myself are visiting the villages of our area and engaging in political activities. Necessary discussions are taking place to contest the upcoming elections together with several other parties. Future political activities are being carried out in alliance with President Ranil Wickremesinghe,” he said.
