The Election Commission states that using digital screens for election campaigning in any district or city is illegal.Commissioner General of Elections – Saman Sri Rathnayake informs that the nearest police station should be informed if such campaigning is observed.
“If a digital screen is being used for any type of election campaign in your district or town, please inform the nearest police station. The police will then take the necessary action. This is completely illegal activity. Paying for or displaying advertisements is prohibited, as it is equivalent to putting up a poster in a public space. Therefore, broadcasting advertisements on digital screens is entirely forbidden,” he said.
