Vehicle suspected to be linked to Gampaha shooting, found

The vehicle believed to have been used by gunmen who murdered a Buddhist monk in Gampaha District earlier today (Jan. 23) has been found aflame in a deserted area in Kaduwela, police say.

It is reported that the vehicle in question had been burnt beyond recognition, when found.

Meanwhile, police say that a white vehicle bearing the same number plate number CAO-5345 that was seen on the vehicle in which the suspects had fled the crime scene, had been found at a garage in Eluwila, Panadura.

Non-academic university staff to launch 2-day token strike

The non-academic staff members of state universities have decided to go on a two-day token strike over several demands including a salary hike.

Accordingly, the strike will be held tomorrow (Feb.28) and the day after (Feb.29), University Trade Union Joint Committee’s Dhammika Priyantha said.

The committee had also warned to resort to a continuous TU action if authorities fail to address their issues within a week.
