Visa application center to remain closed – Indian HC

Due to a security incident reported last night, visa application center, IVS Pvt. Ltd, Colombo would remain closed until further notice, the Indian High Commission notes.

A statement issued by the Indian High Commission says that all applicants are requested to reschedule their appointments with IVS Pvt. Ltd accordingly and to contact the High Commission over phone for any urgent consular / visa matter.

CPC suspends dispensing fuel into barrels & cans

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has suspended pumping of fuel to barrels and cans with immediate effect.

The decision was taken due to reports of unnecessary congestion at filling stations caused by consumers gathering hoard fuel in this manner.

Noting that the decision has been communicated to fuel station owners the CPC warned disciplinary action will be taken against those who violate it.

Speaking at the cabinet briefing yesterday (June 17), Cabinet Spokesman – Minister Nalinda Jayatissa emphasized that there is no shortage of fuel and that the panic-driven demand is unwarranted.

Discussion over elephant damage to MRIA security fence

A meeting was held yesterday (June 17) under the patronage of Defence Secretary – Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha to address the recurring damage caused by wild elephants to the security fence at Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA).

Senior officials from the Civil Security Department, Department of Wildlife Conservation, Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Pvt. Ltd., the Tri-Forces, and the Ministry of Defence had also attended the discussion.

The discussion focused on implementing both immediate repairs and long-term preventive measures, with the Defence Secretary instructing the Tri-Forces and all relevant agencies to act swiftly.

He emphasized the need for sustainable solutions that balance airport security with the natural movement of wildlife, and called for continued coordination among stakeholders to ensure timely implementation.
