Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis today (13) issued a warrant to arrest former Minister Wimal Weerawansa and to produce him in court subsequently.

The order was issued in relation to an incident in which the MP was accused of causing inconvenience to the public by launching a protest over the arrival of former United Nations Human Rights Commissioner Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein to Sri Lanka in 2016.

The warrant has been issued since the MP was not present in court when the case was taken up today.

Former Minister Weerawansa, State Minister Jayantha Samaraweera, MP Mohammad Mussammil and National Freedom Front Members Weerakumara Dissanayake, Piyasiri Wijenayake, and Roger Seneviratne were named as the defendants in the case.
