The recent shooting in Athurugiriya that killed two people, including Surendra Wasantha Perera, also known as “Club Wasantha” and injured four others was orchestrated by underworld gangster Ahungalle Loku Peti, currently in Dubai, under the directive of drug dealer Kanjipani Imran, operating from France.

Police investigations have linked Loku Peti to Makandure Madush and his drug operations in the South.

The owner of the tattoo shop involved, Dulaj Sanjula, is tied to the drug trade through his mother, a known trafficker selling drugs for Loku Peti.

Podi Peti, Loku Peti’s brother, is also implicated in drug trafficking and was involved in the shooting of Police Narcotics Bureau OIC Chief Inspector Neomal Rangajeewa.

Deputy Inspector General Nihal Thalduwa confirmed that seven suspects have been arrested, including the tattoo shop owner and the vehicle owners used in the murder.

Police has received information that the murder was well-planned and it has been carried out by notorious criminals, Loku Peti and Gona Kovile Shantha, who are hiding in Dubai.

The car in which the shooters came was found by the Bulathsinhala Police on Tuesday night after it was abandoned in the Korathota area and left near a deserted house in the Filmella area of the Bulathsinhala police jurisdiction.

Police said the van has no number plates and the copy of the revenue license affixed to the front left glass has an address in Warakapitiya, Denipitiya.

Injured victims, including singer K. Sujeewa and Wasantha’s wife, are receiving treatment at Colombo National Hospital and Kalubowila Hospital.
