Water released from Samanala Wewa to Udawalawe reduced

The amount of water released from the Samanala Wewa Reservoir to the Udawalawe Reservoir would be reduced from today (11), the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said.

The decision has been taken due to the formation of whirlpools along the way that carries water to the turbine following the decrease in water level.

The whirlpools have emerged yesterday and therefore, the operational speed of the generators had been reduced. Accordingly, only 40 megawatts were generated from one generator yesterday.

The CEB said that this will have to be reduced further today.

However, 7.5 million cubic liters of water has been released from the Samanala Wewa to Udawalawe so far.
