A cache of weapons found from several areas around the island following the Easter Sunday terror attacks, have been sunk in the deep sea, as per court orders.
The weapons include over 1,000 swords, bomb parts and guns found during raids of security forces and later confiscated as case material.
On the orders of Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis, a group of judicial staff including the additional magistrate of Colombo Pasan Amarasinghe, the court’s registrar, the custodian of the case material room were present when the weapons were sunk, 17 nautical miles from the Rangala Naval Base, at a depth of 1,000 feet.
