A medical team of the World Health Organization (WHO) specializing in leprosy is to travel to Sri Lanka next month, the Anti-Leprosy Campaign (ALC) says.
According to the ALC, the WHO team will help local health authorities to create a roadmap to eliminate leprosy from Sri Lanka within the next 10 years.
Noting that the number of leprosy patients found in Sri Lanka has significantly increased of late, ALC Director Dr. Prasad Ranaweera has stated, “We have already initiated a comprehensive program to eliminate leprosy from Sri Lanka. […] The World Health Organization has informed us it would send a team of specialist doctors here in March to assist this [initiative]. They will create a roadmap to eradicate leprosy within the next 10 years.”
