Wildlife Officers launch token strike

Wildlife Officers across the country have reported in sick leave, taking part in a one-day token strike today (Dec. 18).

The President of the  All-Ceylon Integrated Wildlife Officers Association (ACIWOA), Prabhash Karunathilake has said that the trade union action will be taken based on several demands including ensuring the safety of wildlife officers.

Wildlife officers are urging the government to take concrete steps towards further increasing the security of national reserves, he added.

Meanwhile, ambulance drivers in the Central Province have also decided to go on strike tomorrow and the day after (Dec. 19 – 20), as a protest against the transfer procedure carried out by the Central Province Governor.
