Woman behind attack on Buddhist monk at supermarket?

The incident of a man attacking a Buddhist monk inside a supermarket in Chilaw has gone viral on many social media platforms.

The victim was identified as Karawitagare Dhammakitthi, a monk who resides in Karavitagara Temple in Chilaw as well as at a temple in Italy.

The victim in his complaint to the Chilaw Police said that the assault took place on October 21 at around 2 pm.

The suspect who assaulted the monk is seen in the video as stealing the luggage of the monk.

The victim said that there were Euro currency notes and Sri Lankan rupees worth Rs.4.8 million in the luggage.

It was reported that this amount was to be given to another person to be sent to Italy.

The Thera was scheduled to return to Italy on the 23rd.

It was revealed that the monk has been continuously intimidated by a woman in the past.

The police suspect that she was behind the assault and robbery.

The Chilaw Police Headquarters are conducting further investigations in this regard.

The Department of Examinations has announced that the 2024 Grade Five Scholarship Examination will be held on September 15 this year.

It adds that applications for the examination will be accepted online from May 27 – June 14, 2024 and acceptance of applications will not be extended beyond the announced period.
